Panther baseball coach Corbin Ellis was chosen as the 2012 Coach of the Year for Yazoo County. Coach Ellis was recently honored in the Panthers’ season opener against Yazoo City.

The Benton Raiders kept its winning ways alive Tuesday evening at home against rival Canton Panthers 7-6.  The Raiders spotted the Panthers an early four runs to start the game in the first.
Jacob Davis hit a RBI sacrifice to get the Raiders on the board. Jason Berry got hit by pitch to earn a RBI. Berry later scored on a Panther error to pull the Raiders within one at 4-3.

Manchester Academy competed in the Manchester Invitational at the Yazoo Country Club Tuesday morning. The Maverick golf team edged out Canton 326 to 332 to come away with the championship.
Maverick head coach Clark Liddon was pleased with his team's performance.

The Yazoo City High School tennis team is off to a rough start for the 2013 season dropping their first three matches to Greenwood, Pearl and Ridgeland. One bright spot for the Indians has been the play of both the No.1 and No. 2 girls doubles teams.
Aliesha Hudson and Jonquil Dent are 3-0 in No. 1 Girls Doubles play after posting a 6-1, 6-1 win over Greenwood’s Kenisha Sanders and Patrece Otero, a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Pearl’s Candace Jackson and Carlee Comans and a gritty 5-7, 10-2, 10-3 victory over Jerra Harris and Kaelyn Edwards of Ridgeland.
