The Yazoo City Indians knocked off the Starkville Yellowjackets 2-1 in division play Friday night. Darius Wright struck out seven in the division win. Indian manager Gerald Peyton was pleased with the win.
“We finally played our best defensive ball game of the year,” Peyton said. “We had some timely hits that helped us pull away with the win. I’m proud of our guys for stepping up to the plate.”
Willie Harris hit a double and Ralph Jones hit the game winning RBI single to give the Indians the win.
Peyton feels confident in his team’s upcoming series against Canton.
“We have played tough competition all year long,” Peyton said. “I feel strong like we can take two from Canton if we play like I know we are capable of playing.”
