Edgar lands giant cat

Local angler Will Edgar hoists a 30-pound flathead catfish he caught recently at a private lake in Yazoo County. Will used a 6-foot medium heavy Berkley Lightning Rod baitcasting rod, a Pflueger Templer baitcasting reel, 50-lb. test PowerPro braided line, and a live sunfish for bait. The giant female catfish was released, as she was heavily laded with roe. Will's wife, Helen Edgar, was on hand to witness the catch.Local angler Will Edgar hoists a 30-pound flathead catfish he caught recently at a private lake in Yazoo County. Let there be light at Indian Field

Yazoo City will soon be playing night games at Indian Field. Indians take on Canton Friday. Yazoo City will soon be playing night games at Indian Field. Indians take on Canton Friday. By JOHN BLACKLEDGE

Field of Dreams portrays Kevin Costner as an Iowa farmer, who one night hears a voice saying, “if you build it he will come.” Friday afternoon at Yazoo City high school light poles were being put in the ground at Indian Field.
For the first time in Indian baseball history since the 1980 season, the Yazoo City Indian baseball team will be able to play baseball under the lights. It will also mean parents of players will be able to watch their children play ball at the high school.
Indian skipper Gerald Peyton is excited about the lights being put up at Indian Field.

USM on fire during NIT

John Blackledge Sports EditorJohn Blackledge Sports EditorMonday night the Southern Miss Golden Eagles whipped Louisiana Tech 63-52 on the NIT tournament. Southern Miss has something special going on this season. The  Golden Eagles got snubbed by the selection committee this not advancing to the NCAA Tournament.
However, they have been taking their frustrations out on opponents like Louisiana Tech Monday night. The Bulldogs beat the Golden Eagles by two points earlier in the season, so it was somewhat of a pay-back game.
Donnie Tyndall and the Golden Eagles are clicking on all cylinders at the moment. Being from the South Mississippi area it makes me proud to be from the area. While most folks in North Mississippi may not give a hoot about that teachers college located on Hardy Street. You might ought to be taking notice.
Wednesday night the Golden Eagles will be taking on the BYU Cougars of the WCC. The Cougars play in the same conference as Gonzaga and St. Mary's, so it should make for a high scoring affair if I had to take a guess when the Cougars visit the Hub City.
I wish Tyndall and the Golden Eagles nothing but the very best, as they try to advance to New York City to the NIT Championship. As the Nike commercial says, "Just Do It" Eagles.
