Freshman Deondre Burns goes up for a shot against Starkville last Friday night.By TAYLOR MITCHELL Sports Editor
Two weeks ago when the Indians upset then-No.2 Starkville 50-47 was the first meeting ever between the two schools. The Yellowjackets weren’t prepared for the slow, grinding, defensive style Yazoo City runs. Last Friday night, however, the Yellowjackets were ready. Starkville avenged one of their three losses from earlier in the season with a 54-34 victory on the Indians’ home court. Despite a 20-point performance by senior Corey Cox, Yazoo City couldn’t catch up with Starkville after going down 16-8 in the first quarter. The Indians wouldn’t allow Starkville much breathing room in the second quarter with just nine points allowed, making the score 25-15 at halftime. -------for the rest of the story see The Yazoo Herald printed edition or subscribe to the Digital Edition.----------
