In front of a packed house Saturday evening, Corey Cox impressed everyone inside Yazoo City’s gymnasium with a series of powerful slam dunks as the Indians routed rival school Yazoo County 42-22.
In the second meeting of the season between the two schools, Yazoo City made just 45 percent of its field goals, but it was the defense that proved to be the winning factor. The Indians never allowed Yazoo County an easy basket or an easy lane to the basket as the Panthers were held to less than 10 points in all four quarters.

Senior Ashanti Spencer had a game-high 16 points for the Lady Panthers as she led Yazoo County to a victory against rival Yazoo City 38-29 Saturday evening.By TAYLOR MITCHELL

In early December the Lady Indians of Yazoo City pulled off a pretty big upset when they defeated Yazoo County 33-21. This past Saturday the Lady Panthers extracted their revenge against their rival school with a 38-29 victory inside Yazoo City’s own gym.
Senior Ashanti Spencer sparked Yazoo County to the victory with a double-double performance, recording 16 points and 11 rebounds.
The Lady Panthers came out of the gates on fire, scoring 13 points in the opening eight minutes of action while holding Yazoo City to just five. Things would change in the second quarter, though.

MADDEN – With the season coming to a close this week, the Mavericks and Lady Mavericks are looking to improve their district tournament positions with a couple more wins in district action. However, Leake Academy had the same idea and put it into action with a pair of victories last Friday night.
The Lady Mavericks lost 70-36, while the Mavericks fell 67-43.
In the boys game, the Mavericks actually kept pace with Leake for the first eight minutes of the game, with each side scoring 16 points. But Leake began to pull away with another 16 points in the second quarter, while holding Manchester to just 10.

Two weeks ago when the Indians upset then-No.2 Starkville 50-47 was the first meeting ever between the two schools. The Yellowjackets weren’t prepared for the slow, grinding, defensive style Yazoo City runs. Last Friday night, however, the Yellowjackets were ready.
Starkville avenged one of their three losses from earlier in the season with a 54-34 victory on the Indians’ home court.
Despite a 20-point performance by senior Corey Cox, Yazoo City couldn’t catch up with Starkville after going down 16-8 in the first quarter. The Indians wouldn’t allow Starkville much breathing room in the second quarter with just nine points allowed, making the score 25-15 at halftime.
