With the rain pelting down on the players at various times Tuesday afternoon, the Lady Panthers of Yazoo County and Cleveland managed to get in their important district meeting.
It wasn’t pretty with nine combined errors made during the game. However, seven of those errors were credited to Cleveland.
Despite those seven errors, the Lady Wildcats had the hotter bats as they got 13 hits against freshman Catrina Hall, en route to an 8-3 victory.
The win puts Yazoo County at a disadvantage in the district standings with both Cleveland and Germantown holding wins above the Lady Panthers. With the top three teams from each district advancing to the playoffs, the loss won’t hurt Yazoo County’s playoff spot, but it will put the dream of a district championship - and the first round bye that comes with it - in jeopardy.

Something new at the Reservoir

Special to The Herald

JACKSON–On Tuesday, March 27th, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) stocked 150,000 Florida-strain largemouth bass fingerlings into Ross Barnett Reservoir. The fish were reared at MDWFP’s Turcotte Fish Hatchery near Canton.
According to MDWFP Fisheries Biologist, Larry Bull, the goal of the Florida-strain bass stockings is to help increase the number of trophy-sized (> 5 pounds) bass in the Reservoir. Bull also stated, “The Department has stocked over 600,000 Florida bass in the Ross Barnett since 2008.”

Headed into Saturday, the Yazoo County softball team had lost two games back-to-back. The Lady Panthers had fallen 1-0 to Germantown and 15-13 on the road at Ethel.
However, that losing streak was broken when the Lady Panthers defeated McLaurin 9-0 in Yazoo.
“We were able to bounce back and play good,” Yazoo County head coach Grant Andrews said. “We executed very well with runners in scoring position.”
Freshman Catrina Hall earned the victory inside the circle Saturday with 14 strikeouts and only a handful of base runners to worry about.
