On Wednesday, Yazoo City senior Johnny Rucker signed a scholarship to play basketball next season at Mississippi Delta Community College. Rucker averaged 10.1 points per game as a senior and 5.3 rebounds. Just like all good things in life, the baseball season has gone by too quickly.
For one portion of Mississippi, this week marks the final week of the regular season. Meaning that district champions and playoff positions will be handed out.
These are the games that matter the most.
For Manchester and Benton Academies, this week offers a final chance at winning a district title and getting an easier path to a state title. However, the Mavericks and Raiders aren’t able to just mail-in their games this week.
Benton faces Tri-County in a pair of games that will determine the district champion. Manchester faces Winston Academy for a shot at capturing its district championship.

On tuesday morning, Yazoo County seniors Ashanti Spencer and Jessica Ward signed full scholarships to play basketball with Mississippi Delta Community College next fall. The Yazoo County baseball team had never beaten Humphreys County under head coach Corbin Ellis.
This past weekend, that stat changed when the Panthers made the journey north to grab a pair of victories. Yazoo County won the first game of the double header 16-5 and the second 15-10.
“This was huge for us,” Ellis said.
The pair of victories also played a pivotal role in the hunt for the playoffs. The wins gave Yazoo County a two-game lead over third place. Cleveland still remains atop the standings.
