Another successful Manchester Academy golf season ended Tuesday with a second place finish in the Class AA finals at the Brookhaven Country Club.  
The Mavericks shot a combined 305 at the tournament, the team’s best combined score for the season.  
“To do that in the state tournament is significant,” said MA head golf coach Clark Liddon.

One of the best seasons in Yazoo City High baseball history came to a close Tuesday with a second round playoff loss to New Hope High.  
The Trojans of New Hope went up 6-0 in the first inning before going up 9-0 in the fourth.  That hole became too much for the Indians to overcome, but they never gave up.  Yazoo scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to break up the shutout.
In the bottom of the fifth, New Hope decided to walk Sam Campbell, putting two men on for Gabriel Campbell.  The younger of the two brothers made them pay by hitting a three-run-bomb to go with his previous single, but those were the last runs that the Indians could muster.
Standout senior Sam Campbell made his final start as a high school player in the losing effort. Sophomore Darius Wright pitched two shutout innings in relief.
Yazoo City head coach Gerald Peyton could not have been more proud of his team.
“I have much respect and love for these players,” Peyton said. “It was a hurtful feeling to see these guys crying at the end of the game today.”
The Indians reached many goals this season, including becoming the Region 3-5A champions.

Morghanne Adams signed a softball scholarship with Coahoma Community College Wednesday. She is pictured at the table with coach Grant Andrews and her family standing proudly behind her. By TAYLOR HAWKINS

Jessica Morghanne Adams completed her lifelong dream of becoming a collegiate softball player on Wednesday when she signed with Coahoma Community College.  The catcher has started for Yazoo County High since 2008.
Adams was awestruck by the monumental event of signing the scholarship papers.
“I’m ready to start the next phase of my career,” said Adams.  “It’s very exciting.”
As a seventh grader, she was asked to take control of the team and become a starting pitcher, but Yazoo County head softball coach Grant Andrews had other plans for the young rising star.
“During the summer of 2009, I asked her to switch to catcher because she had a strong arm,” Andrews said.
The move turned out to be a huge success.  As a catcher, Adams threw out an astonishing 63 percent of base runners throughout her career.

The Yazoo City Indians ended the weekend series with New Hope tied at one game a piece with one game to go. The series is a part of the second round of the 2012-13 MHSAA baseball tournament.
Saturday’s game one in the series was an extra inning thriller.  With the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning of a 6-6 tie game, senior Tre Richardson scored from third on a passed ball.  Darius Wright was the winning pitcher in the game.
Willie Harris led the team with two base hits. Richardson, Sam Campbell, Gabriel Campbell, Andre Lloyd, and Ralph Jones also added a base hit a piece.
