The summertime offers plenty of days of great weather conditions for a round of golf on the local country club golf course. Hopefully, June 4 will be one of those days.
In just over two weeks, the Yazoo Country Club will play host to the St. Stephen United Methodist Church Annual Golf Tournament that will feature some big names in the Mississippi sporting community, including Jackson State University golf coach Eddie Payton, brother of Walter Payton.
Other notable names that will be swinging clubs that Monday are former Baltimore Colts wide receiver Will Richardson, ex-Mississippi Valley State head coach and College Football Hall of Fame Member Willie Totten, Chairman of the Delta Council Dr. Cass Pennington, former Jackson State baseball coach Robert Braddy, former Yazoo City athletic director Bennie Tillman, Yazoo City High School head coach Tony Woolfolk, Henry “Jughead” Campbell, Rev. Thadis Williams, Southaven attorney Edd Peyton, coach Johnny Staples, former mayor of Yazoo Wardell Leach, Bonnie Glover, Rev. Rachael Pitts (host pastor) and longtime Yazoo City golfer Ed Harris.
The golf tournament is scheduled to kick off at 9 a.m. on June 4. There will be a second flight following a lunch break, beginning at 1 p.m.
While there are plenty of teams signed up already, there are still spots available for anyone else wanting to take part in a fun-filled day of golf. The tournament fee is $50, which includes green fee and lunch. There will also be trophies awarded the person with the lowest score, the person who gets the closest to the pin (Hole No. 3) and the longest drive (Hole No. 4). The deadline to enter is Friday, June 1.
