The Yazoo County Panther baseball team came up a game short of capturing the most school wins in team history Tuesday afternoon against  Indianola Gentry falling 7-3. However, the Panthers secured their spot in the playoffs with a victory over Gentry Monday night,
The Panthers got things rolling in the first inning plating two runs. The Rams answered in the second scoring a run. They added three more in the third to go up 4-2 over the Panthers.  The Panthers scored a run to make it close at 4-3.

The Manchester Maverick Golf team hosted the District 2-AA Championship Tuesday at the Yazoo County Club.
The Mavericks came away with the Championship shooting an impressive 318, as a team.
Chase Nash of Oak Hill shot a 75  to claim the overall winner on the day.
Matt Liddon and Palmer Coleman finished second and third respectively shooting scores of 77.
Canton Academy came in second place shooting a 337. Oak Hill came in second place scoring a 343, and Leake Academy finished with a 347 team score.

Indians split a pair

.The Yazoo City Indian baseball team hit the road earlier in the week in a twinbill contest against Jim Hill and Callaway.
The Indians came up short against Callaway falling 2-0. However, they got it together against Jim Hill beating them 11-8.
The Indians plated four runs in the first inning to take an early 4-0 advantage.
They added two more in the second. However, Jim Hill tacked on four runs to make it 6-4.

Manchester tennis shines in district tournament

The Manchester tennis team competed in the district tournament Monday in Jackson at the Parham Bridges tennis center.  
The boys’ team won the runner-up trophy and the girls tied with runner-up Canton, but lost the tie-breaker for the trophy.  The Mavs will travel to Grenada next Tuesday for the North State tennis tournament.
Seniors Blanton Crisler and Josh Peaster led the Mavericks by winning the No. 1 boys doubles district championship 7-5, 6-1 over the Winston Academy team in the finals.  Crisler’s strong all-around game was running full throttle throughout the match, and Peaster heated up in the second set as the team pulled away for a convincing win.
