Reed Gordon, son of Yazoo City native Billy Gordon will be the starting long snapper in the fall.Reed Gordon, son of Yazoo City native Billy Gordon will be the starting long snapper in the fall. You’ve probably never heard of Allen Aldridge, Ryan Pontbriand or even Zak DeOssie, but they have all played critical roles in the NFL.

They are part of small class of football players who make a living snapping a ball between their legs.

Long snappers don’t get much media coverage, but they play one of the most important roles on any football team.

And if Reed Gordon was going to play college football, especially in the Southeastern Conference, he was going to need a back-up plan.

Gordon, a 6’4 220 pound red- shirt at Mississippi State and son of former Yazoo City High School football player Billy Gordon, was recently awarded a scholarship after joining the team as a walk-on at long snapper.
