Yazoo County headed to North State, fall in district title game

After outscoring their opponents 111-70 in the first two games of the 4A region 3 basketball tournament, the Yazoo County Panthers run at a district title halted Saturday by the other Panthers of Amanda Elzy 56-38. Complete statistics were not available as of press time.
It was the third straight loss versus the Panthers from Greenwood this season, including the regular season finale earlier this month.
The loss won’t keep Yazoo County out of the playoffs. Tuesday the Panthers host Houston at 7 p.m.
The road to the finals got a little icy for the Panthers after the boys had to wait two days because of snow and ice that scattered across the state Wednesday and Thursday.
By the time things got a little warmer, Yazoo County toppled Greenwood 61-34 Friday.
The Panthers outscored the Bulldogs in three of the four quarters including a 19-1 blowout in the fourth.
DeAndre Scott scored a game-high 32 points to lead the Panthers. Lee Williams also finished in double figures with 18 points.
