CARROLL QUIN
Carroll Lucius Quin Jr., 86, died Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at the Martha Coker Green Homes.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Poole officiating. Mr. Quin’s great nephew, the Rev. Jeff Jordan, RUF, PCA Campus Minister at the University of Texas, Tyler, Texas, will also participate in the service. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. immediately preceding the service.
Mr. Quin, a retired CPA, was born June 20, 1923, in Leland. His father was Carroll Levi Quin, originally of Holmesville, and his mother was Lottie Myrtle Maute, originally of Vicksburg. In 1940 he graduated from Leland High School, where he was a member of the football, basketball and tennis teams. He was president of the senior class and voted “Most Popular” and “Most Dependable.” His family owned the Quin Insurance Agency in Leland. He attended Mississippi College and Bowling Green Business College, where he majored in accounting.
When he was a patient at the Mississippi Sanatorium, he met his wife of 64 years, Rose, who was an employee there. After their marriage on May 10, 1946 at Galloway Memorial Methodist Church in Jackson, they moved to Yazoo City to be near his mother and his sister, Marjorie Quin Beale and her husband James (Jim), and they resided there until their deaths.
Mr. Quin founded Carroll L. Quin and Company, Certified Public Accountants, in 1962, having passed the CPA exam in 1960, after a number of years of studying accounting through correspondence courses and working in that field, primarily at Yazoo Motor Company. He was the longtime manager of the Yazoo Motel and of the Lamar Hotel. When he retired in 1993, he had been in public accounting for over 30 years.
During his career he served as President of the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants, as a Board Member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, President of the Yazoo County Chamber of Commerce, President of the Yazoo City Rotary Club and the longtime Secretary for the United Givers. He was the Secretary for the Yazoo Country Club and a Board Member at the First United Methodist Church. He also held many other positions over the years within these and other civic and community organizations. He was an accomplished swimmer, and he enjoyed water sports and traveling throughout his life, especially throughout the United States, to coastal areas, to World’s Fairs, and to Europe.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Rose Thornberry Quin; his first wife; great nephew Anthony (Tony) Quin Stedronsky, and his sisters, Marjorie Cathell Quin Beale, and Marquerite Letitia (Tish) Quin Stedronsky.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Quin, CPA, of Yazoo City and Carolyn L. Quin, Ph.D., of Palm Springs, Calif.; a son,  Carroll L. Quin III (Cynthia) of Palm Springs, Calif.; a grandson, David Carroll Quin (Kaye), and a great granddaughter, Jessica Katelyn Quin, of Corona, Calif.; nieces, Jane Beale Jordan (Read) of Madison,  Marsha Beale Staley (Ronald) of Seabrook, Texas; Charlotte Ann (Shan) Stedronsky Nichols of Las Cruses, NM; Millie Phillips of Yazoo City; Mary Hagwood Mullins (John) of Clarksdale; and nephews, Victor Leo Stedronsky of Las Cruses, NM; Carl Hagwood (Betty Jo) of Greenville; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers are James R. Peaster III, Thomas G. Peaster, Read Jordan, Ron Staley, Bill Simmons and Miller Holmes Jr.
Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Men’s Bible Class of First United Methodist Church.
