Paul Fry Sr.

Paul Fry Sr., 95, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2010 a King’s Daughters Hospital.
Funeral services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Old King Solomon Church with Rev. Benjamin Hall Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Sutton Cemetery in Belzoni.
Mr. Fry was a retired farm worker.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Fry of Yazoo City; four sons, Paul Fry, Willie Fry, and Jimmy Fry, all of Yazoo City, and Eugene Fry of Jackson; and four daughters, Annie Farris, Ruth Farris, Fannie Jones and Dametrica Ellis, all of Yazoo City.

BEA JOHNSON

Beatrice “Bea”  Elnev Arender Johnson, 96, died Monday Jan. 3, 2011 in Baytown, Texas.   
Visitation is today from 9-10 a.m. at Short Creek Baptist Church. Graveside funeral services will follow at Short Creek Cemetery under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mrs. Johnson  was born on April 28, 1914 in Smith County to Guy W. Arender and Lila Patterson Arender. She resided most of her life in Tinsley.  She was married to James Calvin Johnson, who preceded her in death in September 1980. She was a member of Liverpool Baptist Church and also attended Short Creek Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her son James C. Johnson Jr.; and her grandsons William Isom Johnson Jr. and James C. Johnson III and Tony and Alsia.
Survivors include her son William Isom Johnson and his wife Janyce (of Baytown, Texas);  grandsons  Dr. John Jefferson Johnson and his wife Molly (of Del Rio, Texas);  Albert George Johnson and his wife Rosalyn (of Baytown, Texas); Lee Walsi Johnson and his wife Heather  (of Indianapolis, Indiana); great-grand daughters Lori, Sara, and Julie Johnson (of Del Rio, Texas); Courtney and Cassidy Johnson (of Baytown, Texas); great granddaughters Greyson and  Emerson Johnson (of Indianapolis, Indiana); and great -grandsons Albert  Jr. and Randy Johnson (of Baytown, Texas), and Kaleb Johnson (of Indianapolis, Indiana).
Mrs. Johnson is also survived by daughter-in-law Ann Johnson (of Stratford, TX),) and granddaughter Lt. Col. Kara Neuse and her husband Micah Neuse and great-grandsons Bryce and Jayce Neuse (of San Antonio, TX); Great-granddaughter Alyssa Johnson (of Albuquerque, NM)
She was preceded in death by her son James C. Johnson (JR) and her grandsons William Isom Johnson Jr. and James C. Johnson III.
Additional surviving family include one sister Belvia Powell of Jackson, Mississippi;  Mary Francis Sutton of Houston, Texas and her children Angela and Danny.

WILLIAM MARTIN Sr.

William T. Martin Sr., 73, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2011 at home.
Funeral services were Wednesday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Hutto officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Martin was born Dec. 3, 1937 in Yazoo County to John W. and Francis Virginia Neely Martin. He was a member of Short Creek Baptist Church and a retired employee of Canadian National Railroad.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia Ann Norwood.
Survivors include a son, William T. Martin Jr. (Dusty) of Pelahatchie; two sisters, Marilyn Lewis (J.B.) of Yazoo City and Margaret Douglas (Viven) of Bentonia; and two grandchildren, William T. Martin III and Kathryn Martin.

NANCY McGRAW

Nancy B. McGraw, 73, died Monday, Nov. 29, 2010 at Regency Hospital in Jackson.
Funeral services were Dec. 1 at Hebron Baptist Church with Rev. Lewis Kalil officiating. Burial followed at Hebron Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mrs. McGraw was born July 3, 1937 in Yazoo County to Pete and Virginia Hilderbrand Burrough. She was a homemaker and a member of Hebron Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Ray McGraw; a brother, Dan Burrough; and a sister, Sarah Linnan.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Luby of Benton and Tina Creel of Bentonia; a son, Hugh Albert McGraw of Yazoo City; special niece, Charla McGraw of Bentonia; two brothers, Kerry Burrough of Bentonia and Dale Burrough of Springfield, Mo.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Jarrad Creel, Paul Ray McGraw, Jason McGlawn, Daniel Burrough, Jace Creel, Josh Carpenter and Keith Burrough.

AUDREY PICKELL

Audrey Dale Pickell, 60, of Inola, Okla. died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010 in Clarmore, Okla.
Funeral services were Dec. 30 at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Pickell was born Oct. 24, 1950 in Yazoo County to John and Mary Cook Smith. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry E. Pickell.
Survivors include two daughters, Tammy Schmitt of Claremore, Okla. and Tyna Hynun of Pattison; three sons, Larry E. Pickell Jr. of Inola, Okla., Micheal Pickell of Leakesville and Cruz Brown of Inola; and eight grandchildren.

 
Letters to the editor

Dear Editor:
In the 6 April 2013 edition of The Yazoo Herald you published a letter from Cynthia Fuller, "Thanks to (Van) Foster for helping get bridge replaced."
After reading this lettter, I had the impression that the bridge was completed and traffic was moving along normally.  
Wrong!  Last Sunday I was on my way to homecoming at Providence Baptist Church.  I turned north onto old 49 and saw the signs that the bridge was out.  I assumed that they hadn't gotten around to removing the signs.  I expected to cross Thompson Creek on the new bridge.  When I approached the creek the road was barricaded and construction equipment was down in the creek.
Perhaps The Herald can keep us updated as to the progress being made on the new bridge.
