MADELINE BROADAWAY
Madeline F. Broadaway, 81, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.
Funeral services were Sunday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. A.L. Franks and Bro. Larry Echols officiating.
Mrs. Broadaway was born July 4, 1929 in Sunflower County to Clarence L. and Lois Anthony Fulgham. She was a homemaker and a member of the Yazoo City Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Fulgham.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Broadaway of Yazoo City; sons Larry Merrell (Mary Yvonne) and Curtis Merrell of Yazoo City; daughters, Pam Pittman Davis (Johnny) of Yazoo City, Lisa Pittman Miller (Jimmy) of Madison and Andrea Broadaway Cohen (Brad) of Bigbee Valley; brothers, Charles “Blackie” Fulgham and James “Doc” Fulgham, three sisters, Bonnie Jean Strickland of Brandon, Glenda Singleton of Water Valley and Helen Stewart of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; grandchildren, Tre Merrell, Tiffany Nichols (Chris), Reggie Merrell, Abby Merrell, Aynsley Gibson (Michael), Morgan Zeigler, Adam Davis, Madeline Miller, Parker Lynn Cohen and Bradley Key Cohen; and great grandchildren, Gabby Merrell, Catie Merrell, Ellie Grace Merrell, Annabeth Merrell, Bailey Nichols, Merrell Nichols and Sadie Gibson.
Serving as pallbearers were Tre Merrell, Michael Gibson, Chris Nichols, Dick Cors, Reggie Merrell, Adam Davis, Donnie Scroggins and Bille Poole.
Honorary pallbearers were Bradley Key Cohen, David McBride, Edward Fulgham, Lance Fulgham, Cory Cannon, Dwight Stewart, Hansel Stewart, Tyler Smith, David Broadaway, Michale Fulgham, Chey Fulgham, Ron Cannon Jr., Rob Cannon, Cecil Saxton, Tre’s Kivett and Brady Smith.
DOROTHY CARTER
Dorothy M. Smith Carter, 58, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010 at Delta Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services are today at 3 p.m. at Eden Baptist Church with Rev. Allen Winters officiating. Visitation is from 1-2 p.m. at the church. Mortimer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Carter was a nurse’s aid.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Winnie and Minnie Smith; a son, David Wade Carter; a brother, Samuel Smith; and three sisters, Effie Samford, Ann Alexander and Annie Pearl Treadwell.
Survivors include her husband, George Alfred Carter Jr.; a daughter, Mary Willhite of Lake; a son, George Alford Carter III of Benton; two sisters, Margie Holland of Oklahoma and Faye Weeks of Oakland; and a brother, Winfred E. Smith of Forest.
DEONDRE STREET
Deondre Devon Street,18, of Birmingham, Ala., died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Funeral services are today at noon at St. Matthews Church of God in Christ in Yazoo City. Scott Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Street was a freshman at the University of Alabama. He graduated from Oak Mountain High School of Birmingham in May 2010.
Survivors include his parents, both formerly of Yazoo City, mother, Kimberly Haymer-McLaurin; father, Garrion Renard Street; three brothers and two sisters.
CARRIE THOMAS
Carrie Bell Thomas, 99, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010 at King’s Daughters Hospital.
Funeral services were Saturday at Old King Solomon M.B. Church with Rev. Arthur Young officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Scott Memorial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Thomas was born July 16, 1911 to Gentry and Elnora Fisher of Yazoo County. She was a member of Christian Grove M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hudy Thomas and five children, Jessie, Bessie, Willie, Roosevelt and Hudie Thomas Jr.
Survivors include daughters, Mattie (Wardell) and Carrie (Terrell), both of Yazoo City; sons, Eugene (Walynn) of Madison and Roosevelt (Linda) of Ridgeland; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were Willie Richardson Jr., Terry Johnson, Marcus Thomas, Jessie Thomas Jr., Timothy Holmes and Courtney Thomas.
