LINDA BURTON

Linda Gail Burton, 65, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010 at home.
Funeral services were Monday at Central Baptist Church with Rev. John Vanlandingham and Rev. Gowan Ellis officiating. Burial followed at Central Holmes Cemetery under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mrs. Burton was born May 29, 1945 in Yazoo County to Lester and Frances Johnson Hilton. She was a hairdresser, a homemaker and a member of Central Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Burton of Bentonia; son, Jay Burton of Bentonia; two daughters, Reshawn Saxton of Bentonia and Kim Creel of Flora; two sisters, Faynelle Ryan of Clinton and Peggy Webster of Southaven; and seven grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Frankie Burton, Roger Hancock, Bobby Neely, Dean Hopson, J.R. Hancock, Ellis Douglas, Walter Fisher and Danny Kirk.
Honorary pallbearers were Raiford Hancock, Mike Neely, Curtis Bowman, Walter Kat, Trey Burton, Willard Ryan and Roger Howell.

ROSS HAYMER

Ross Earl Haymer, 56, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010 at home.
Funeral services were Saturday at Galilee M.B. Church with Rev. Calvin Knight officiating. Burial followed at Galilee M.B. Church under the direction of Shaffer & Collins Funeral Home.
Mr. Haymer was born March 29, 1954 to Henry James Hamer and Ida B. Haymer. He graduated from Linwood and Benton High School and was a longtime mechanic at Fred Saxton’s Garage.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry James Haymer; and a brother, Andrew James Haymer.
Survivors include his daughter, Ida Bush (Darrell); three granddaughters, Ajah, India and China of New Jersey; mother, Ida B. Haymer of Benton; four sisters, Carrie McGrone (John) and Franklie Shelton (Clarence) of Yazoo City, Lillian Jordon (Melvin) of Bentonia and Etha Douglas (Eddie) of Benton; three brothers, Alvin Haymer (Sophie) and Henry Haymer (Catherine) of Yazoo City and Clarence Haymer (Sharon) of Fayetteville, N.C.; an aunt, Viola Smith; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were Eric Douglas, Robert Smith, Elliot Douglas, Johnny Haymer, Clarence Shelton Sr., Henry Hudson, Clarence Shelton Jr., Gary Robinson and Gregory Robinson.
Honorary pallbearers were Deacon Eddie Kirkland and Deacon Edward Haralson.

THOMAS LINNAN

Thomas  A, Linnan, 80, of Murfreesboro, Tenn. died Friday, Nov. 5, 2010.
Funeral services were Nov. 14 at Flint Baptist Church in Decatur, Ala. with Rev. John Bain officiating.
Mr. Linnan was born in Spencer, Iowa to the late John Anglin and  Winnie Irwin Linnan. He lived in Yazoo County and graduated from Satartia High School, where he lettered in several sports and was elected class president. He was U.S. Navy veteran serving in Korea and a  mechanical technician for NASA until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Burrough Linnan; children, Patty and  Jack Linnan; and sisters, Mary and Belle Linnan.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Key Linnan; daughter, Vivian Hays of  Decatur; son, Michael Linnan of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; sister, Dorothy  Markham of Doniphan, Mo.; stepchildren, Douglas Morgan of Murfreesboro,  Tenn., Susan Voce of Madison, Bryce Richie of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

KAREN PORTER

Karen M. Porter, 37, died Monday, Nov. 29, 2010 in an automobile accident in Carthage.
Funeral services are today at 2 p.m. at Stricklin-King Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Steven Howell officiating. Burial will follow at Fletcher’s Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Ms. Porter was born on Oct. 16, 1973 in Yazoo City. She was a secretary and a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her father, Roy Porter.
Survivors include her daughter, Marley Porter of Yazoo City; and mother, Jan Porter of Yazoo City.

MARTHA SMITH

Martha Hamilton Smith, 72, of Indianola, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2010 in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
Funeral services were Monday at Indianola City Cemetery under the direction of Boone-Card Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smith was born in Drew and moved to Greenville with her parents after graduating high school. She became manager of Dairy Queen in Yazoo City and later in Indianola.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas “Smitty” Smith.
Survivors include two daughters, Floretta “Jo” Story Harris of Indianola and Tondra Story Lee (Kendall) of Yazoo City; two sisters, Dorothy H. Powers and Gwen H. Toler, both of Greenville; a brother, Jimmy Ray Hamilton of Greenville; and five grandchildren, Casey Harris of West Palm Peach, Fla., Chris Harris of Greenville, Darrel Lee of Bay Springs, Laura Lee Hale (Nathan) of Orlando, Fla. and David Lee of Yazoo City.

Mary Thomas

Mary Marguerite Hart Thomas died Friday, Nov. 26, 2010 at King's Daughters Hospital after battling cancer.
Funeral  services were Sunday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home chapel with Rev. George Butler and Rev. Andrew Brown officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Thomas was born August 10, 1938 in Satartia in the family home to Sonny and Mary Lewis Hart. She was a former school teacher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Isham Thomas; her mother and father, James Newell “Sonny” Hart and Mary Lewis Hart.
Survivors include her brother, Irma Newell Hart (Nancy) of Yazoo City; nieces, Mary Claire Hart Rogers (Brent) of Cleveland and Crosby Ellen Hart of Yazoo City;  nephew, Todd Hart; sister-in-law, Polly Bennett (Larry) of Columbus; niece, Cheryl  Scudder (Brett) of Chesapeake, VA; aunt, Dorothy Lewis Thomas of Vidalia, La.; uncle, James Lewis (Flo) of Tyler, Texas; three great nieces and two great nephews; and lifelong companion and friend, John Thomas Lynch.
Serving as pallbearers were John McInnis, James Cresswell, Lewis Davis, Charlie Lungrin, John Michael Pillow, and Tracy Burrough.
