Raiders lose first round battle with WCS, ending season

WINONA- Benton Academy’s first taste of a state football title will be put on hold for at least one more year after the Raiders were eliminated from the 2010 MAIS Friday after a 28-7 loss to the hands of Winona Christian.

The Raiders end their season at 5-6, including 3-1 in district play under second year head coach Wayman Grantham.

“Give Winona credit, they had a good game plan,” he said. “They ran a formation that we had seen before, but they added a little wrinkle to it. They did a good job.”
Benton quickly fell behind early in the ball game as the hometown Stars exploded for 22 points in the first half including a safety.

Walker Jackson snatched a 29 yard pass from C.J Hodges for the game’s first touchdown. Jackson scored again from four yards in the second quarter out but not before Ben Bowman broke a few tackles and sprinted to the goal line for a 38 yard run.
