CLAIR LOOMAN Jr.

Clair Stanley Looman Jr., 80, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010 at the VA Medical Center.
Funeral services are Thursday at 2 p.m. at Melrose Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Long officiating. Burial followed at Melrose Baptist Cemetery under the  direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mr. Looman was born Dec. 8, 1929 in East Liverpool to Clair S. Looman Sr. and Maude Brooks Looman. He was a lifelong bricklayer and managed Delta Brick & Tile in Indianola for 18 years before moving to Yazoo City. He also taught bricklaying at Mississippi Delta Community College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Holly Looman and Robert Looman; and his sisters, Connie Looman, Eilene Walton and Marcella Garn.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Looman of Yazoo City; two daughters, Joyce Howell (Ken) of Greenville and Jerrie McClain (Richard) of Houston, Texas; a son, Chey Fulgham; five grandchildren, Randy Brasier, Tommy Brasier, Megan Langdon, Casey Langdon and Kenneth Howell Jr.
Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.

MARY STRONG

Mary Ann Strong, 57, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2010 at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.
Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at St Matthew Church of God in Christ with visitation between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Day Cemetery under the direction of Knight & Lindsey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Strong was born March 25, 1953 in Yazoo County to the late Fannie M. Price and John Price.  She was an active member of Lintonia Chapel Seventh-Day Adventist Church.   
She was preceded in death by brothers, June Pitford, Walter Price of Chicago, Charlie L. Price, Homer Price, Vernon Price and Willie Earl "Pewee" Price, of Yazoo City, Isaac "Louis" Price Sr. of Yazoo County; and also a baby daughter, Veronica Strong.
Survivors include her husband, Charlie Strong Jr., three daughters, Cynthia Diandra Strong of Philadelphia, Pa, Charlotte Yvette Brown (Michael) of Yazoo City, Yolanda Marice Strong of Alexandria, Va.;  a step-daughter, Sheletta Mitchell of Jackson; four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; two sisters, Edith Richardson of Yazoo City and Janie (Charlie) Whisenton of Thornton; two brothers, Herbert Priest of Yazoo City and Earnest (Betty) Price of Chicago.
Serving as pallbearers are Henry H. Priest, Jr., Calvin Priest, Alexis Blunt, Clifton Strong, Adrian Price and Marius Price.  Honorary Pallbearers are H. Herbert Priest Sr. and Earnest Price.
Repast to follow burial services at New Zion Fellowship Hall.

 
Letters to the editor

Dear Editor:
In the 6 April 2013 edition of The Yazoo Herald you published a letter from Cynthia Fuller, "Thanks to (Van) Foster for helping get bridge replaced."
After reading this lettter, I had the impression that the bridge was completed and traffic was moving along normally.  
Wrong!  Last Sunday I was on my way to homecoming at Providence Baptist Church.  I turned north onto old 49 and saw the signs that the bridge was out.  I assumed that they hadn't gotten around to removing the signs.  I expected to cross Thompson Creek on the new bridge.  When I approached the creek the road was barricaded and construction equipment was down in the creek.
Perhaps The Herald can keep us updated as to the progress being made on the new bridge.
