No turnovers key for Lady Panthers
Breanna Jones returns for her senior year to help lead a young Lady Panthers back into the postseason. When the 2010 girls basketball season gets under way, the Yazoo County Lady Panthers will hit the court with just one starter returning from last year.
With a young and inexperienced squad that’s made up of six seniors and juniors and seven sophomores, head coach Patrick Nutter says he’s had to make a few changes to accommodate his personnel; a lot smaller and faster than in recent years.
“I’ve always run a post oriented offense, this year I have more guards than post players,” he said. “We’ve got to have a different look and different philosophy; it’s going to be an experiment all the way through.”
Three players return for their senior campaigns led by Debney Edwards (4.2 points), Breanna Jones (5.2) and Roberta Gibson, who didn’t get much playing time last season.
Jessica Ward returns healthy after missing the second half of 2009 with a knee injury. She was the team’s leading scorer heading into the Christmas break.
