MARY WILLIAMS

Mary Virginia Hardy Williams, 85, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010.
Funeral services were Saturday at Glenwood Cemetery. Burial followed under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mrs. Williams was born to John Joseph Hardy and Mary Julia McClinton Hardy in Newton on May 8, 1925. She and her family moved to Yazoo City when she was in the 8th grade, where she met her lifetime sweetheart, JB Williams. She graduated from Yazoo City High School in 1942. She attended college at the University of Tennessee, University of Mississippi, and Mississippi State College before graduating from Mississippi State College for Women in 1945 with a degree in Home Economics.
After graduation, she worked for the USDA in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and California and Delta Airlines in Jackson, as well as serving as a dietician at Baptist Hospital in Jackson
She married Jennings Bryan Williams Jr on August 23, 1946, then worked as a dietician at Mississippi State College Cafeteria and wrote teaching units for a hotel management course at Miss. State.
She served as a substitute teacher in Yazoo City High School for a number of years before becoming a teacher at Manchester Academy for 10 years, where she was loved by many students.
She raised four sons, all of whom attained the rank of Eagle Scout, and she served as a Den Mother in Cub Scouts.
She enjoyed cooking, traveling, raising vegetables and playing bridge.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sons, Jennings Bryan Williams III and John Hardy Williams.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Jennings Bryan Williams Jr; sons, David Owsley Williams and wife Margaret of Houston, Texas, and Frank Guthrie Williams and wife Heather of Lake Charles, La.; and  grandchildren, Robin Williams of Sugarland, Texas, and John and Bethany Williams of Lake Charles, La.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Yazoo City, Manchester Academy of Yazoo City or Andrew Jackson Council, Boy Scouts of America.

LONNIE GREEN Jr.

Lonnie Green Jr., 87, died Sept. 29, 2010.
Funeral services were Oct. 29 at Rose Hill M.B. Church with Rev. Robert Williams officiating.
Burial followed at Perry Chapel C.M.E. Church Cemetery under the direction of Shaffer & Collins Funeral Home.
Mr. Green was born April 29, 1923 in Yazoo City to the late Lonnie Green Sr. and Paulie Hatchett. He served for four years in World War II in the U.S. Army. In 1956 he relocated his family to Chicago and was employed by Mid West Forging Manufacturer. After retiring in 1987 he moved back to Mississippi, where he resided in Satartia and joined Rose Hill M.B. Church.
Survivors include his wife, Gertha; two sons, Lonnie Earl (Denise) Green and Charles (Marcella) Green; three daughters, Tommie Powell, Erma (Ernest) Lewis and Deloris Green; four sisters, Pecola (Edward) Roberts, Sadie Woodard, Christella Levison and Goldena McGree; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were Earl Taylor, Barry Green, Carlton McCullum, Lenny Paul Green, Ennis Green and Robert Lee Green.
Honorary pallbearers were Clarence Brown, David Green Jr., Edward Roberts, Clayton Foster, Jimmie Johnson and Donald Woodard.
