Panthers feel Bulldog bite
Tremaine Baldwin finds a hole to run through during Friday’s district game with Greenwood. Photo by Jason Pattersoneven turnovers proved to be much more than the Panthers could overcome as Greenwood defeated Yazoo County 42-0 Friday.
The Panthers (1-6) were hoping to pick up the team’s first conference win after falling 26-6 at Amanda Elzy the previous week.
The home field offered little advantage, however, against a versatile Bulldogs offense and an overwhelming defense.
Greenwood took advantage of a Panthers offensive miscue early to put the first points on the board.
Calvin Lucas scooped up a fumble and raced to the endzone for a 7-0 lead with 2:37 left in the first quarter.
Raheem Sanders grabbed a 40-yard touchdown pass with 11:26 to go in the second to make it 13-0 after the extra point kick failed.
Sanders then turned around grabbed an interception to set up a Greenwood offensive drive that ended with Sammy Epps catching a touchdown reception to make it 20-0 with 1:20 to go in the second quarter.
