The magical run for the Manchester Academy girls soccer team came to an end last Thursday following a 6-1 loss to eventual champion Laurel Christian the 2010 MAIS Division II semifinals.

Trailing by three goals at the break, the Lady Mavericks could overcome the deficit and were eventually handed just their third loss on the season.

”Our girls are starting to learn that the really good teams are disciplined and rely on each other,” Lady Mavericks head coach Mike Morris said. “Good team play always beats good individual play.  I hope it was a good learning experience.”

The Lions scored the game’s first goals in the first two minutes on corner kicks.

The third goal came with about five minutes left in the half.

“Tough game to end the season,” Morris said. “We played them even for most of the remainder of the half and did have opportunities to score”

Kaitlin Woods scored the lone goal for Manchester early in the second half, a deflection off an initial shot by Kristen Morris to make it a 3-1 game.

Laurel Christian added three more goals, including two late in the game to get the win.
