Constitution Week, which is held Sept. 17-23, was the idea of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
In 1955, NSDAR petitioned Congress to make this week each year the observance of our U.S. Constitution. On Aug. 2, 1956, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed it into law.
This year marks the 223rd anniversary of our Constitution's framing on Sept. 17, 1809. Every year Public Law 915 guarantees the issuing of a proclamation by the president of the United States designating Sept. 17-23 as Constitution Week.
The book, Unruly Americans and the Origin of the Constitution by Woody Holton, was donated to the Ricks Memorial Library by the Yazoo Chapter NSDAR in honor of Constitution Week. It is hoped that all Americans will have a renewed patriotism for their country recognizing our constitution for the freedoms it guarantees every American citizen.
