There was nothing left after an early morning house fire in rural Yazoo County this week.
Bert McDaniel awoke to a fire around 4 a.m. Wednesday as his Old Dover Road home was engulfed by flames in minutes.
“When the first unit got to the fire, the house was already fully engulfed,” said Kenny Lewis, fire marshall. “We continued fighting that fire until 6 or 7 that morning.”
Lewis said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
McDaniel was asleep when the fire began in his home.
“Mr. McDaniel said he woke up when he felt his eyes burning,” Lewis said. “He got up, looked down the hall and saw the fire. But he managed to get out safely.”
