Panthers commit no TO’s, fall to Amanda Elzy on road
GREENWOOD – Trailing by a touchdown late in the ballgame, Yazoo County’s fourth down push was stopped short of the first down marker after they had clearly gained enough yards, only to result in a turnover on downs. Amanda Elzy added another touchdown and would go on to win 26-6 in a game that wasn’t decided on the scoreboard.
The Panthers dropped to 1-6, 0-1 on the season.
“It was just a rough night for us,” head coach Matt Williams said. “The kids played their hearts out; we did everything we were supposed to do, just couldn’t get any breaks.”
On the opening kick-off Tremaine Baldwin was headed for the end zone with an 89 yard return, only to be tackled at the three yard line. The ball pops out and falls across the goal line for a touchback.
Williams says the referees missed a blatant horse collar, a tackle which is outlawed at every level of football.
