The Junior Auxiliary wrapped up its second annual Freezer Pleaser fundraiser this week, and its winner will be announced at the Manchester Academy football game on Friday.
The fundraiser proved to be a success last year, and the local chapter felt it should continue to the annual event this year. For the past few months, chapter members have been selling raffle tickets for a chance to win a chest freezer filled with casseroles, meats, breads and desserts.
The freezer was donated by Sears of Yazoo City.
Entering into the fall season, the local chapter also has a variety of serivce projects in the works.
A Reading is Fundamental session will be held this week at the Boys and Girls Club. Free books will be distributed to club members, and JA members will treat the youth to an afternoon of Halloween stories and goody bags.
With the Yazoo County Fair just around the corner, JA will be partnering with Ident-A-Kid again this year. Stop by the booth to update your children’s identification card for free.
Chapter members Ashley Cerda and Laura King have been selected as Member of the Month for the months of August and September.
Cerda, social chair and corresponding secretary, has been very busy this season with coordinating several Meals for Members. She was very active in tornado recovery efforts and the annual school supply and uniform drive.
Cerda has also been preparing for the upcoming welcoming social for potential incoming members.
She is the wife of Brett Cerda.
Laura King, fundraising chair, was very instrumental in the planning of the annual Freezer Pleaser. Along with tickets, she was responsible for coordinating the food, which will be included with freezer for the raffle winner.
King also planned a Reading is Fundamental session at the local Boys and Girls Club this month.
She is the wife of Matt King, and they have a son, Prather.
