HS Football Preview, Oct 1

Manchester Academy remains the only school without a win in 2010; tonight the Mavericks look to put a stop to their 0-5 start against Winston (3-3) in the district opener.

The green and gold have been held to a pair of touchdowns offensively in the last two games while giving up 76 points. Winston is coming off a nail biting 31-29 loss to Starkville Academy.

Yazoo City will hit the road for the third consecutive and look to finish out that trip 2-1 with a win tonight at Canton. The Indians were just over matched in last week’s 35-6 loss to Neshoba Central. It was the second time this season they were held to just a touchdown.

The Tigers (1-4) have dropped four straight after their season opener win over Murrah. Canton has been struggling on defense giving up 42 in each of their last two games.

Benton Academy will look to make it four in a row against Central Hinds tonight at home. The Raiders have averaged a little over 43 points in those wins led by the running game of Joe White and T.C. Saxton.

Central Hinds has been nearly unbeatable at 5-1 this season. Their lone loss came in a blowout against Brookhaven in week five.

Yazoo County ended their winless streak last week with a convincing 50-0 win over Williams Sullivan. Gerald Lampkin ran for 247 yards and four touchdowns as the Panthers racked up nearly 500 yards of total offense.

The defense played just as well, giving up just 28 yards with a pair of interceptions and a blocked punt.

They battle an Amanda Elzy team who has struggled offensively, scoring no more than 26 points in their first five games.
