Joseph Lamar “Joe” Burdine, 45, died Thursday, March 18, 2010 at home. Funeral services were Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church with Father George Woodliff officiating. Burial followed at Kosciusko City Cemetery under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mr. Burdine was born Jan. 13, 1965 in Kosciusko to Lamar and Marcella Baker Burdine. He was a paramedic and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his wife, Holly H. Burdine of Yazoo City; daughter, Malory Burdine of Canton; parents, Sonny and Marcella Burdine of Yazoo City; sister, Armona (John) Daughaday of Yazoo City; and a brother, Edward Burdine of Yazoo City.
Serving as pallbearers were Pete Harper, John Daughaday, Chad Burdine, Bruce Jackson, Stephen Burdine and Durand Burdine.
Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation or to Trinity Episcopal Church, 301 N. Main Street, Yazoo City, MS 39194.
Margaret A. “Peggy” Eldridge, 74, died Sunday, March 21, 2010 at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.
Funeral services are today at 11 a.m. at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Midway Baptist Cemetery.
Mrs. Eldridge was born Sept. 12, 1935 in Yazoo County to John and Nellie Wiltcher Saxton. She was a receiving clerk and a member of Midway Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Griffin Eldridge; two brothers, Charles “Buddy” Saxton and Plesey Lee Saxton; and two sisters, Bernice Staffhouser and Ethel Davis.
Survivors include three sons, Billy Ray (Debra) Eldridge and Larry Eldridge, both of Benton and Danny (Beverly) Eldridge of McComb; two daughters, Jo (Maurice) Holloway and Lori (Curtis) Haven, all of Benton; three sisters, Earline (Gillie) Davis, Billy (Herbert) Hood and Patsy (Thomas) Ward, all of Benton; two brothers, Rufus (Dot) Saxton and Sam (Frances) Saxton, both of Benton; sister-in-law, Billy Jean Saxton of Benton and daughter-in-law, Janice Eldridge of Benton; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers are Joe Haven, Gary Saxton, Todd Purvis, Ronnie Davis and Mike Adkinson.
Doris S. Hilderbrand, 97, died Friday, March 19, 2010 at the Martha Coker Green Houses.
Funeral services were Saturday at Glenwood Cemetery with Holmes Elton “Buzzy” Cummings officiating. Burial followed under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hilderbrand was born Oct. 16, 1912 in Yazoo County to Richard S. Sadler and Amanda Martin Sadler. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Hilderbrand; daughter and son-in-law Glenda and Bobby Selby; granddaughter, Robin Selby; and six sisters, Glenda Sadler, Aletha Cummins, Charlene Lancaster, Myra Sadler, Ollie Lee Hancock, Camille Renicker and Rena Hilderbrand; and a brother, Curtis Sadler.
Survivors include a sister, Thetis Fuller of Jackson; sister-in-law, Dorothy Sadler of Bentonia; niece, Sharon (Keith) Plunkett of Flora; great nephews, Isaac and Rickey Plunkett; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Dennis P. Lewis, 31, of Vicksburg, died Saturday, March 20, 2010 at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Emmanuel M.B. Church in Jonestown with Rev. Dennis Lewis Sr. officiating. Shaffer & Collins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Lewis was a native of Yazoo City and a 1996 graduate of Yazoo City High School.
Survivors include his wife, Georgette Lewis; son, Ja’kobe; stepson, C.J.; daughters, Danasia and Destiny Lewis of Rosewell, Ga. and Sha Anna Cooper of Yazoo City; maternal grandparents, Eugene and Nehema Johnson of Yazoo City; paternal grandparents, Ozie Younger, Smiley Lewis and Houston Younger; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Ludie P. Sanders, 95, died Thursday, March 18, 2010 at the Martha Coker Green Houses.
Funeral services were Saturday at Coax Baptist Cemetery in Winnsboro, La. Burial followed under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mrs. Sanders was born April 30, 1914 in Winnsboro, La. to Mr. and Mrs. John Jackson Powers. She was a homemaker and a member of Coax Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Percy Edward Sanders.
Survivors include her son; Max (Rita) Sanders of Yazoo City; three grandchildren, Alex (Beth) Sanders of Oxford, Marti Sanders of Florence, Italy and Brent Sanders of Oxford; sister, Ruth Crum of Baton Rouge, La.; sister-in-law, Eula Powers of Winnsboro, La.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Martha Coker Green Houses or the Coax Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
Albert Horace Young, 52, died Friday, March 12, 2010 at University Medical Center in Jackson.
Funeral services were March 18 at Century Funeral Home with Rev. Anthony Brown officiating. Burial followed at Cypress Garden Cemetery.
Mr. Young was born June 22, 1957 in Yazoo City to Roberta Young and the late T.J. Ward.
He was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, George.
Survivors include his mother, Roberta Young; a brother, Robert (Paulean) Young; sisters, Willella (Johnny Lee); all of Yazoo City; and a host of other friends and relatives.
Serving as pallbearers were Robert Young Jr., Roderick Coleman, L.C. Toombs, Ronland Donaldson, Eddie Jones and Terry Jackson.
