PTSA kicks off celebration of Membership Month
Special to The Herald
The Yazoo City High School Parent Teacher Student Association kicked off its celebration of PTA Membership Month with the signing of a proclamation by Mayor McArthur Straughter proclaiming the month of September as PTA Membership Month in Yazoo City.
The organization hung a banner on the campus acknowledging this observance. President and Vice President and certified parents leaders, Patricia Wright and Carl Fleming, invited Linda Stout-Coleman, Delta Parent Coach for Parents for Public Schools to come and take part in the celebration.
During this time, the signed proclamation was presented to the principal Dr. Casandra Banks. Members of the organization were there to witness the event. The members of the organization are strongly encouraging all parents to join PTA to help their child and school to become a successful school.
Linda Stout-Coleman took the opportunity to share with Dr. Banks the resources that were available to her school and district with having two certified parents in the district. Stout-Coleman shared with Dr. Banks the many different areas that Wright and Fleming were trained in and the assistance that they could be to the school. Stout-Coleman emphasized strongly to Dr. Banks that PPS was not there to try and run the school nor take it over, but to be of help to the parents in educating them of their rights as parents with their child’s education and to be of service to the schools in a positive manner. She also informed Dr. Banks that Wright and Fleming were not going to always agree with her on everything, but they were trained in a professional manner on how to go about addressing their differences.
