Mavs soccer downs Bayou Colts, again
Lyncyn Relinquias’ goal from 30 yards out gave the Manchester Academy girls soccer team a 3-2 win over Bayou Academy Wednesday, taking the regular season series and solidifying their chances of a number one seed come the postseason.
“It was an exciting game, way too exciting for me,” head coach Mike Morris said. “At times, we played some of the best soccer we have played all year. Our defense was great in the first half and we dominated possession and shut down their forwards early.”
The Lady Mavericks (8-2) welcomed back Kristen Morris and Miranda Guion after missing three weeks due to injures and it was Morris who quickly made an impact, scoring just 38 seconds into the contest.
About 20 minutes later, the one two combination of Kaitlin Woods and Annie Peaster gave Manchester a 2-0 lead. Woods took the ball at mid-field, dribbled by two defenders down the right sideline and found Peaster stationed in the box.
The field conditions weren’t exactly ideal to play in, the field; Morris said was covered in a haze from surrounding fields that were being burned which made it hard to breathe for both teams.
Manchester had a sluggish start in the second half, and gave up two goals in a five minute span.
