Yazooans dominate triathlon
Neshoba County’s Heart O' Dixie Triathlon brings hundreds of athletes from across the country every year to take part in one of the toughest events in the sport.
Three Yazoo natives, Doug Broome, David Parker and Annalee Pierce have finished in the top three of the mixed relay bracket every year since 2006.
Pierce didn’t race in 2008 because of a stress factor.
“It is one of the most fun races I have ever participated in,” Pierce said. “It never feels like I run that far because there is a constant flow of people on the road headed to the fair cheering us on.”
Athletes ranging in age from 15 to 98 try and churn out the best times in the 0.5-mile swim, 27.5-mile bike ride and 7-mile run.
The course begins at Lake Tiak-O'Khata in Louisville and finishes among the cheering spectators and campers at the Neshoba County Fairgrounds.
