Mavericks drop four in a row, latest 50-6
Matt Peaster’s 10 yard score in the second half wasn’t enough to help Manchester get their first win in 2010, falling to Leake Academy 50-6 Friday night.
“They’re a good ball club and we made them look a lot better than what they were,” Mavericks head coach Benny McLendon said. “Sooner or later you have got to be able to move the football and run the football and we just haven’t been able to do it.”
Leake jumped on the scoreboard on their first possession with a six yard run by Josh Mascagni; a missed extra point made it 6-0 Rebels with 9:14 left in the first quarter.
The Rebels made it a two possession game after forcing the Mavericks to punt on their second drive. Quarterback Grant Wilson connected with Gib Brantley for a 43 yard score to make it 13-0 with 5:44 remaining.
Manchester coughed up the ball on their next drive, but caught a break a few plays later when Josh Peaster picked off Brantley in the red zone. The Mavericks failed to capitalize on the momentum and Leake made it 20-0 with a 54-yard run by Wilson just minutes into the second quarter.
