City adopts budget with no millage hike
By JAMIE PATTERSON
Despite losing a large amount of sales tax revenue this year, city leaders think the new budget looks stable.
Three members of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen adopted the 2010-11 budget with no millage increase Wednesday.
Ward 1 Alderman Charles “Mickey” O’Reilly and Ward 2 Alderman Dr. Jack Varner were not present at the meeting.
But remaining board members felt the budget for the next fiscal year is a start to getting back on track from losing major retailers and a car dealership.
Yazoo City will have a general fund of $6,215,392. Lisa Lucas, the city’s financial officer, said the general fund is about $68,000 less than last year.
City Clerk Shirley Knight said declining sales tax revenue contributed to that figure.
