Lady Mavs fall in district play
OAK HILL- Manchester Academy was handed a crucial loss by Oak Hill Tuesday, which could hinder their postseason chances on the softball diamond. The Lady Mavericks gave up two runs in the bottom of the fifth as the Lady Raiders held on to a 5-3 win with a handful of games left in the regular season.
“The girls had a solid ballgame, they didn’t make too many mistakes,” head coach Russell Cruise said. “Our pitcher threw well. We just couldn’t get the win.”
Terri Peyton pitched a little over four innings in the loss. She faced two batters in the fifth before Kaitlin Woods pitched in relief.
Manchester trailed by three runs heading into the top of the fifth inning when Olivia Stovall slapped a one run triple and then later scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to a run.
