Special to The Herald
Beja Everett, local member of the Yazoo Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution and chairman of Constitution Week in Yazoo City, joined Mayor McArthur Straughter recently as he signed a document proclaiming Sept. 17-23 as “Constitution Week” in Yazoo City.
Everett said the local DAR chapter hopes to bring attention to the U.S. Constitution during the week with a display at Ricks Memorial Library.
On Friday, Sept. 17, at 3 p.m., bells will ring out inYazoo City and across America as participating churches ring their bells as part of “Bells Across America.”
“The DAR urges citizens to be informed, read the Constitution, exercise your right to vote and watch for attacks on our Constitution,” Everett said.
Sept. 17 marks the 223rd anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution.
