Supervisors lower taxes nearly a mill

On Tuesday Yazoo County Board of Supervisors adopted the fiscal 2011 budget which, overall, marked almost a one mill reduction in expenditures.
County Administrator Donna Kraft said the value of a mill varies according to the budget classification. A mill in the general fund is valued at $150,908.26; a mill in the road, garbage and fire funds is set at $124,382.69; and a mill in the school budget is at $110,996.31.
“The county millage will be 70.77 (mills),” said Chancery Clerk Quint Carver. “The school millage went up just a little from 42.09 (mills) to 42.64 (mills). The county (budget) went down from 72.27 (mills) to 70.77 (mills), or a one and one-half mill drop.”
The county portion of the 2011 budget represents a decrease of 1.5 mills over that of the 2010 budget. The county school budget represents an increase of .55 mills. Overall, the fiscal 2011 budget posts a .95 mill reduction in expenditures.
