City approves new ordinance dealing with junk cars

By JAMIE PATTERSON
Herald Reporter

City leaders approved the new city ordinance regulating the removal and disposal of junk and abandoned vehicles during its open meeting Monday afternoon.
The issue has been a hot topic among the Board of Mayor and Alderman for several months, and board members feel the new ordinance will curtail the eyesores within the city.
“Once the word gets out about this new ordinance, people should start being mindful about the junk cars in their yards,” said Mayor McArthur Straughter. “We will be enforcing this.”
Danny Neely, city code enforcement officer, was out in full force last week removing junk vehicles from various properties. Many property owners have been cooperative over the past few weeks, but there are some who refuse to listen to the warnings.
