The book has finally been closed on a case that many investigators consider one of the dumbest crimes in recent memory.
Leroy Deering, 24, of 1151 Ebenezer Pickens Road, was sentenced to three suspended years for his role in a 2008 staged accident in which he and eight others towed a junk car to a fake crash scene.
State trooper Xavier Carr responded to the intersection of Miss. 432 and Midway Gin Road at 2 a.m. to discover a Cadillac and a Chevrolet Impala at what at first appeared to be the scene of a collision.
