While admitting that state law requires the county to grant the requested millage increase for the county school district, the Yazoo County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted not to accept the school tax request.
“We might have to (raise the millage), but I think they can get by without having to raise taxes,” District 5 Supervisor and Board President Cobie Collins said.
Collins said the school district was requesting a 1.54 mill funding increase.
“We have cut everything we can, and everyone else needs to have the same attitude,” he continued.
“We can’t do things within the county that we want to do for our constituents, yet this is a mandated thing that we’re stuck with and it happens every year,” District 1 Supervisor Van Foster said.
