Russell takes complaint to board

By VERNON SIKES
For the Herald

In response to Ward 3 Alderman Clifton Jones’ July 26 concerns about the alleged disappearance of $200,000 in city funds, Yazoo City certified public accountant Ardis Russell appeared Monday before the Yazoo City Board of Mayor and Aldermen to state his case.
Russell performed the city’s last audit.
“I am here to state that no prudent person can make that claim and I can assure you that $200,000 was not lost in 2006,” Russell began. “I offered to go over additional city books to show that the $200,000 was borrowed by the general fund in January 2006 and paid back in February 2006 to the proper funds. The balance owed went to zero but the money went into a bank account.”
Russell said Jones declined his offer to review the books.
“I offered to leave the city ledgers in his mailbox. He refused,” Russell continued.
