Errors plague Benton, 9-3 loss

Benton Academy gave up five unearned runs in first inning Monday night that led to a 9-3 loss to Canton Academy.

The Lady Raiders (3-3) committed five errors behind starting pitcher Jenny Reynolds, all in the first inning. After that shaky start, Reynolds settled down until fifth. Head coach Vince Davis said they had a chance to win the game if it wasn’t for the bad start, but he gives credit to Canton.

“Day in and day out they’re a better ball club,” he said Tuesday. “We had a chance to beat them and we should have.”

Benton slapped seven hits off the Lady Panthers, they just couldn’t capitalize until the late innings already trialing 5-0. Canton capped off the win with a run in the sixth and two in the seventh.
