Start of year marked by few ‘criers’

By VERNON SIKES
For the Herald

Yazoo City School District Superintendent Shannon Sudbury reported that on the first day of school this year, there were only 20 “criers” at Webster Elementary School as opposed to approximately 60 last year.
Sudbury’s report came during Monday evening’s school board meeting. The 27-item agenda took more than two hours to cover with an executive session extending well beyond. Although the meeting was scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., board President Sharon McCallister had to delay the sounding of the gavel 35 minutes as the other board members, administrative staff and spectators waited for trustees Robert Green and Truvander Kennedy to arrive.
