Like father like son: A Carlyle family tradition
By JOFFRE WASHINGTON

Legendary Yazoo City High School coach Archie Carlyle has made a career sitting courtside at the Mississippi Coliseum while winning seven state championships during his illustrious career as a boys and girls basketball coach.
Recently, however, the name Carlyle has been missing from the ranks of coaches vying for various state championships. That all changed last week as once again Carlyle roamed the sidelines, directing a team to a Big House victory.
And while a Carlyle was on the sidelines, it’s not the Carlyle you think.
While Archie watched from the bleachers, it was his son Anthony who was in charge, leading his Velma Jackson Falcons (26-8) to a 37-36 overtime victory over Pass Christian and into the Class 3A title game against Booneville played Friday afternoon.
