From handling two natural disasters back to back to serving as a welcoming face for a multitude of local causes, Bernice McGinnis will be a tough act to follow.
The Yazoo County Emergency Manager retired last week after almost 34 years of service to the community.
“Helping people has been my biggest reward, especially in their time of need,” McGinnis said. “I hope to have a lasting impression that there is a need to prepare for a disaster in order to survive them.”
During her tenure, McGinnis could be found circulating information within the Yazoo community as severe weather approached. Preparation was her top priority when many would begin to panic with uncertainity and stress.
