Indians cruise into district finals

By JOFFRE WASHINGTON
For the Herald

This time last year, the Yazoo City Indians were heavily favored heading into their opening round game of the district tournament. Unfortunately, the Indians were upset in that game and their season came to an unexpected and abrupt end.
Fast forward ahead one year and YHS head coach Archie Carlyle was determined not to let that happen to his team again.
“We tried to make sure that we were mentally ready. We didn’t want to dwell on last year. I told them this was a new game and a new day. We can’t look past the team we are playing and that’s what we concentrated on,” said Carlyle.
Added senior wing guard LaDarius Drain, “Going into the game, I kind of had thoughts of last year in my head. It was like a nervous feeling in my gut.”
