Yazoo native Garrett Pickens is off to a 1-0 start for No. 1 nationally-ranked Delta State University.
Pickens pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the Statesmen Saturday in a 9-8 win over the University of Montevallo.
Pickens is off to a strong start in his senior season after receiving a medical redshirt in 2012. The 6-1 right-hander appeared in 11 games out of the bullpen as a junior in 2011.
Pickens posted a 2-0 record with a 3.10 ERA in 20.1 innings pitched before suffering a season-ending injury.
