Miss Roark to wed Shipp on March 9
Miss Mary Roark and Dr. David ShippMr. and Mrs. Steve Roark of Yazoo City announces the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Mary Morgan Roark, to Dr. David Patrick Shipp, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Shipp of Benton.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rowland Geddie Jr. of Tupelo and Mrs. Bettye Roark and the late Ubon Roark of Yazoo City.
Miss Roark graduated from Manchester Academy with honors in 2006. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Communication Science and Disorders in 2010 and a Masters in Speech-Language Pathology in 2012 from the University of Mississippi.
She graduated Magna Cum Laude and was on the Chancellor’s Honor Roll. She was also a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Lambda Sigma and Gamma Beta Phi.
She was a member and social chair of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She is also a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
She is a speech-language pathologist at Pearl Lower Elementary School.
The prospective bridegroom is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Middleton and the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Hugh Shipp Jr., all of Benton.
He was a graduate of Benton Academy in 2004, Mississippi College in 2008 and the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2012.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Mississippi College in 2008.
He graduated Cum Laude and was also on the President’s and Dean’s List. He was a member of the Mortar Board. He also was a member, secretary and treasurer of the Civitan Men’s Club.
While at dental school at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2012, he was on the Dean’s List. He also served as a Dental School Student Body Secretary/Treasurer and Vice President.
He was a representative of the American Student Dental Association and the Mississippi Dental Association. He earned the American Academy of Endodontics and Periodontology awards.
He is currently completing his residency at the University of Mississippi Dental School.
The couple will be married on March 9, 2013 at 4:30 p.m. in Emmaus Chapel in Satartia.
Rev. David Bryant, pastor of First Baptist Church, and Rev. Barrett Bowden, pastor of Island Community Church in Memphis and brother-in-law of the bride.
A reception will follow at Emmaus Retreat Center.
