ROBERT GUTHRIE
Robert L. Guthrie, 90,  died Jan. 22, 2013 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.  
Funeral services were held Thursday at St. John’s United Methodist Church with Rev. Wayne Johnson officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Stricklin King Funeral Home.
Mr. Guthrie was born on  Dec. 7, 1922 in Benton. He served in the United States Army, fighting in World War II and the Korean War.  
Mr. Guthrie retired from American General Insurance, after 32 years in the insurance business.  
For 55 years, he was an active member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Linnie Matilda Guthrie and his father, Jim George Guthrie, eight brothers and five sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Betty Dean Guthrie of Yazoo City;  daughter, Bobbie Smith (Edd) of Yazoo City; sons, Ken Guthrie (Peg) of Madison and Tommy Guthrie (Dana) of Yazoo City; and eight grandchildren.

ELLA MAE DAVIS
Ella Mae Davis, 51, died Dec. 31, 2012.
Funeral services were Jan. 11 at Brooks Funeral Home in St. Paul, Minn. Burial followed at Crystal Lake Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Mrs. Davis was born June 16, 1961 in Yazoo City to Lucille and Richard Barber Sr. After attending Yazoo City High School, she relocated to Minneapolis. She was an active member of Worldwide Outreach for Christ.
She is preceded in death by her father, Richard Barber Sr.; brothers, Spencer Barber, Andrew Barber and Richard Barber Jr.; and sisters, Amanda Brown and Laura Jones.
Survivors include her mother, Lucille Barber of Illinois; daughters, Nadvia and Nyeshia Davis of Minnesota; five brothers, Willie James Barber, Frank Barber and Melvin Barber of Minnesota, Sherman Barber of Wisconsin and Johnny Barber of Michigan; two sisters, Carrie Winfield (Preston) and Corrine Chambers of Illinois; a grandchild, O’Ryan Grant of Minnesota; and a host of other relatives and friends.

ROOSEVELT HUDSON
Roosevelt “Wolf Lake” Hudson, 82, of Yazoo County, died on Jan. 15, 2013 in Jackson.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the New Zion Multiplex Building under the direction of Shaffer and Collins Funeral Home.
Mr. Hudson was born on July 26, 1930 on El Dorado Plantation in Yazoo County to Rev. Steve and Minnie Pearl Hudson. He was married to Claudine Hill and to this union seven children were born.
Hudson joined the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department in 1972, becoming the first black deputy sheriff in Yazoo County, where he served for over 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steve Hudson; and four siblings, Mable Hudson, Steve Hudson Jr., Mildred Hudson Davis, and Catherine Hudson Taylor.
Survivors include his seven children, Ann Irvy (Ronnie) of Detroit, Cobert Hudson of Bentonia, Jacquline Shelton (Elroy) of Yazoo City, Sarah Bell (Jeffrey) and Alva Thomas of Nashville,  and Betty Gibson (Larry) and Alice Hudson of Jackson; 16 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one on the way; two sisters, Willie Mae Smith of Chicago and Minnie Winters; Uncle Decell Hudson of Chicago; Fannie Edwards of Chicago and Leeora Robin of Phoenix; and a host of family and friends.

DAISY MEEK
Daisy Merchant Meek, 89, of Benton, died Jan. 22, 2013 at her home.
Graveside services were held Thursday at Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Stricklin King Funeral Home with Richard Jennings officiating.
Mrs. Meek was born on June 15, 1923 in Marion County, La. to James Thomas Merchant and Rosa Barrons. She was a homemaker and a member of Tinsley Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Joe David Meek.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Jo Meek Beck of Jackson; son, Larry D. Meek of Benton; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

SUSIE ROLLING
Susie Cathey Boles Rolling, 77, of Yazoo City, died Jan. 10, 2013.
Funeral services were held on Jan. 19 at New King Solomon Church with Rev. Gregory Robertson officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Century Funeral Home.
Mrs. Rolling was born on July 16, 1935 in Bentonia to Florence Cathey and Walter Boles.
She confessed to Christ at an early age at Oak Grove Church.
She was married to James Rolling until his death in 1988. She was a faithful member of New King Solomon M.B. Church, where she diligently served in many capacities.
She was one of the cornerstone members of the N.A.A.C.P. Chapter in Yazoo County, where she served as solicitor and the executive secretary for over 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Mary Frances, Peacola and Florence.
Survivors include her son, Al J. Moorehead of Yazoo City; sister, Helen Boles of Branson, Mo.; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
Honorary pallbearers were James Bullock, John Jones Jr., Samuel Jones, Saeed Moorehead, Rico Scott, A.C. Smith and James Walker.
Pallbearers were Jay Jones, Garrette Scott Jr., Michael Lewis, Hubert Nelson, Dante Williams, Willie Wright and Charles Scott.  

CATHERINE STAMPS
Catherine Lofton Mills Stamps, 75, of Vaughan, died on Jan. 14, 2013.
Funeral services were held on Jan. 19 at the L.T. Miller Community Center under the direction of Scott Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Willie McCullum IV officiating.
Mrs. Stamps was born on Jan. 2, 1938 in Vaughan to Frank Lofton and Annie Washington Lofton.
She confessed to Christ at an early age and was baptized at Tri-Union Church and later moved her membership to New Hope Baptist Church.
She married the late Ernest Mills Sr. in 1956 and to this union, nine children were born. In 1978, she married the late William “Ace” Stamps.
She received her education at Bunches Elementary and Linwood High School. She retired from St. Francis Head Start Center of Yazoo City after many years of dedicated services.
Survivors include her four sons, Ernest (Margie) Mills and  Jimmy Charles (Donna) Mills of Benton, Anthony (Betty) Mills and  Wardell Mills of Woodbridge, Va.; five daughters, Rutha Mills Henderson, Sharron Mills and Patricia (Douglas) Hollins of Jackson, Dianne Mills of Yazoo City and Tonja Mills of Benton; three sisters, Lela Cook and Hannah Harris of Oak Park, Ill. and Irene (Roosevelt) Washington of Yazoo City; five brothers, Robert (Alverdis) of Oak Park, Ill., Albert Lofton, Sam Henry (Bertha Lee) Lofton and Julius (Helen) Water of Yazoo City, and Willie Lofton; 26 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

JANET WILKINSON
Janet Harris Wilkinson, 88, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013 at King’s Daughters Hospital.
Funeral services are today at 2 p.m. at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Hugh Smith Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Wilkinson was born Dec. 29, 1925 in Yazoo City to John Robert Harris and Mable E. Jones Harris. She was a retired bookkeeper for Miss. Supply Company and registrar for the Yazoo County Health Department.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley M. Wilkinson Sr.; a brother, Banyon Jones Harris; a sister, Jean Harris Payne; a daughter, Carol Ann Wilkinson Rhodes; and a great grandson, Hunter Cannon Rhodes.
Survivors include a son, Stan Wilkinson (Nancy) of Yazoo City; two daughters, Lesley Smith (Ralph) of Yazoo City and Kathy Pettigrew (Ricky) of Canton; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Shun Fredrick, Wade Rhodes, Trey Wilkinson, Jay Atkinson, Mark Rhodes and Tra Smith.
