ROOSEVELT HUDSON
Roosevelt “Wolf Lake” Hudson, 82, of Yazoo County, died on Jan. 15, 2013 in Jackson.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the New Zion Multiplex Building under the direction of Shaffer and Collins Funeral Home.
Hudson was born on July 26, 1930 on El Dorado Plantation in Yazoo County to Rev. Steve and Minnie Pearl Hudson.
Hudson joined the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department in 1972, becoming the first black deputy sheriff in Yazoo County, where he served for over 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steve Hudson; and four siblings, Mable Hudson, Steve Hudson Jr., Mildred Hudson Davis, and Catherine Hudson Taylor.
Survivors include his seven children, Ann Irvy (Ronnie) of Detroit, Colbert Hudson of Bentonia, Jacquline Shelton (Elroy) of Yazoo City, Sarah Bell (Jeffrey) and Alva Thomas of Nashville,  and Betty Gibson (Larry) and Alice Hudson of Jackson; 16 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one on the way; two sisters, Willie Mae Smith of Chicago and Minnie Winters; Uncle Decell Hudson of Chicago; Fannie Edwards of Chicago and Leeora Robin of Phoenix; and a host of family and friends.

BETTIE WILLIAMS

Bettie S. Williams, 43, died Jan. 17, 2013 at her home in Madison County.
Funeral services were Sunday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Michael Bird officiating. Burial followed at Fletcher’s Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Williams was born April 3, 1969 in Yazoo County to Nathan “Son” and Rosemarie Bond Smith. She was a supervisor for the Xerox Corporation and a member of Pocahontas Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Williams of Flora; two daughters, Courtney Williams and Crystal Williams of Flora; a grandson, Jayden Williams; three sisters, Jerrie Thompson (Duane) of Madison, Tricia Porter (Reid) of Yazoo City and Peggy Saxton of Benton; six brothers, Tommy Harber (Linda), James Harber (Lois), David Smith, Marvin Smith, Wayne Smith (Peggy) and Dewayne Smith (Sheri), all of Yazoo City; mother, Rose Marie Smith; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were Jason Cunningham, Mike King, Jared Wright, Brandy Sherman, Gary Taylor, Scott Sherman and Michael Shuttlesworth.
