The Benton Garden Club met on Jan. 5 at the Benton Methodist Church fellowship hall.
Guest speaker was K. K. Hill, who gave a presentation on the “Styles of Japanese Flower Arrangements.”
Hostesses were Patsy Foster, Paula Ohlmeyer, and Barbara Parker.
A delicious brunch of soup and salad was served prior to the program.
Hill conducted the program on the Japanese style of floral construction. Having been to Japan three times, he gave interesting background information on some of the floral styles and materials the Japanese use, including ikeabana, keabana and zen style.
He also constructed an example of Japanese style arranging and commented that in Japan, arranging various plant materials in a pleasing composition is about “having some peace in your day on the inside.”
Following the program, there was a question and answer period regarding different types of camellias and other shrubs, which are best suited to the area.
At the conclusion of the meeting a drawing was held, and the table decorations were awarded as door prizes.
